Our mission statement at Laurel Elementary is "WE EXPECT NOTHING LESS THAN THE BEST". We operate from this goal on a daily basis. We believe that to make this happen we must have a team effort from parents, students, teachers and the community. Student success is our mission, because we want to prepare our students for life in the new millennium.

 

Our primary purpose as a school is to provide access for students to a challenging curriculum that will prepare them to not only overcome future barriers, but more importantly acquire the fundamental skills that are required to thrive in a 21st century world. With our students, faculty, and community, we can make Laurel Elementary the best Elementary School in the surrounding area, so join us in achieving that goal.

Greetings from the area I often refer to as "God's Country." 

 

My name is Chad Kidwell, and I am both excited and honored to be the Principal at Laurel Elementary School.  I am proud to be a product of the Camp Dix community and Laurel Elementary School.  I am a graduate of both Lewis County High School, and Morehead State University.  I currently hold a M.A in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Social Sciences, as well as a M.A. in School Administration, neither of which would be possible without the nurturing of Laurel Elementary School and the community that it serves.

 

My grandmother was a member of the first graduating class of Laurel High School, and taught English at both Laurel and Lewis County High School.  My mother spent the majority of her 33 year teaching career at Laurel Elementary.

 

I am married to Joanne Kidwell, who is a middle school Language Arts teacher.  I am the proud father of my two sons, Ellis and Jackson.  I enjoy teaching, fishing, and NASCAR.  When I am not on the creek bank, in the woods, or at home, Bristol Motor Speedway or a Civil War Battlefield is my favorite place to be.
