Lewis County is located in northeastern Kentucky and
named for explorer Meriwether Lewis. Bordered by the Ohio River,
and with numerous creeks and streams, Lewis County is noted for its
fishing and recreational sites. Most of the land consists of
forest-covered hills, small valleys, and river bottoms. Logging
and the manufacturing of wood products are an important part of the
economy.
The elevation in the county ranges from 485 to
1400 feet above sea level. Though big in area, Lewis County is small in
population. In 2006, the county population was 13,741 in a land
area of 484 square miles, an average of 29 people per square mile.
